Schools and Colleges
Ready to start your path on the way to being a broadcast engineer, program director, talk show host or DJ? We'd like to help!
For those of you in grade school through high school, we offer the chance to get involved through your school. We will work directly with your school to make it possible for your school or class to broadcast a one hour show once a week. We ask that you contact your instructors and tell them about us and what we are doing. Suggest to them that they should visit our Nisqually Radio web site for more information, and then contact us about doing a broadcast project.
Educators may find that their broadcast project affords them the opportunity to combine several disciplines in the process. Broadcasts are done using a
computer with (free) Shoutcast and Winamp software. We suggest creating a broadcast folder
on the school's host computer, and filling it with one hour of audio clips. When it's broadcast time someone just has to click on the program to start the pre-recorded broadcast
which consists of playing the files in the broadcast folder.
A click to start, and a click to exit the program an hour later.
Learning computer science, audio engineering, script preparation (english), musical composition, public speaking are just a part of what is possible. This is completely up to the instructor and school. Oral reports are just one
example of how this can be brought into the teaching of any subject. Sports casting,
school news, original student composition in music or poetry are all possible themes for broadcasts.
A special internship project for a single highly motivated upper-classman, or a project open to the entire school, ...it's up to you, the educational professional, to decide. Broadcast time can be divided equally between students or presented as an incentive or reward for outstanding accomplishments and work. have a different show every week or have a fixed format and topic, again, it's all up to you.
There is no fee involved for this although we may request that student broadcasts include
a few advertising sound bytes which we will provide, but we'll try to keep this to a
minimum. Talk it over with your fellow educators and students. Then show the world what you've got! Click here to contact us now.
